SUPPORT SALMON ENHANCEMENT AND THE FUTURE OF SOUTH ISLAND FISHING The South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition (SVIAC) is an independent, not-for-profit angling advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the fish, habitat and recreational fishing opportunities that are so important to South Vancouver Island. Our vision is simple: healthy fish populations, productive fish habitat and thriving year-round angling opportunities for generations to come. Since it's inception in 2012, SVIAC has worked to ensure that recreational fishing is recognized as a sustainable and valuable public resource — one that contributes to our communities, our economy and our quality of life. YOUR MEMBERSHIP MAKES A DIFFERENCE SVIAC is powered by its members, volunteers, sponsors and donors.Every new member strengthens our ability to speak on behalf of South Vancouver Island anglers when important decisions are being made by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and other government agencies. But our work is about more than advocacy. We are putting anglers' dollars directly into salmon conservation. Following DFO's termination of the highly successful Sooke Chinook Enhancement Initiative, SVIAC has broadened its conservation efforts. We are now working with local hatcheries, First Nations, community organizations and other partners to support practical salmon enhancement, monitoring and new technologies throughout the region. Recent initiatives include:

$10,000 to Goldstream Volunteer Salmonid Enhancement Association to help maintain critical community hatchery operations during a period of reduced federal funding.

$10,000 to the Spruce City Wildlife Association to support Upper Fraser Chinook recovery and hatchery capacity.

$50,000 in partnership with the Sidney Anglers Association toward coded-wire tagging equipment for the Cowichan River Hatchery, helping improve salmon monitoring, stock assessment and future fisheries management.

Expanded mass marking initiatives with local hatcheries to improve the identification and monitoring of hatchery-origin Chinook and Coho.

Working with the T'Sou-ke First Nation and local partners on plans for improved salmon counting, trapping and monitoring on the Sooke River.

Exploring AI-assisted sonar technology to improve the counting and monitoring of returning salmon and the assessment of pinniped impacts.

These are practical investments in salmon — not simply requests for more restrictions on anglers. WE ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR YOUR FISHERY SVIAC continues to advocate strongly for reasonable, sustainable recreational fishing opportunities on South Vancouver Island. We believe fisheries management must be based on sound science, measurable conservation outcomes, transparency and accountability. Our advocacy includes:

Protecting access to sustainable recreational Chinook and Coho fisheries.

Challenging unnecessary or unsupported fishing restrictions and closures.

Ensuring recreational anglers have a meaningful voice in salmon allocation decisions.

Promoting salmon enhancement, habitat protection and better monitoring.

Working with government, First Nations, hatcheries, conservation organizations and other stakeholders to find practical solutions.

Ensuring the important economic, social and community benefits of recreational fishing are recognized.

KEEP UP WITH WHAT SVIAC IS DOING Want to know what is really happening with South Island fishing, salmon conservation and SVIAC's advocacy efforts?
