The title refers to a story the artists learned about Montreal ceramicist Eileen Reid: “While at a beach on Beaven Lake with a friend and their children, Reid noticed the plasticity of the sand, and she and her friend began to form objects. In our research and studio, we pursue these kinds of moments, moments of heightened attention that surprise us, where observation leads to new forms. For Eileen Reid, this first squeeze of wild clay was the beginning of a set of experiments that brought her into a special skill-share relationship with other women and to expand her love of clay to the public as a founding member of the Westmount Visual Arts Centre.”
