Residency Presentation Thursday April 28th, 2022 Presentation at 6pm, discussion at 7pm At Ada X, 4001 Berri, #201 Don’t miss Anahita Norouzi’s residency presentation! You will have the chance to explore archival documents that inspired her project The Weed in Your Garden, as well as an Augmented Reality application developed over the past few weeks. The presentation will be followed by a discussion with curator and art historian Mojeanne Behzadi. The Weed in Your Garden belongs to a larger project investigating the relationships between humans, plants, and place. In Norouzi’s long-term research into botany, colonial politics, and experiences of displacement, she uses displaced plants and their classifications as “foreign and invasive species” to explore the ecological and social dimensions of migration in Canada. Through the linguistic similarities between how colonial institutions classify and control plant life and human migration, Norouzi traces the diminished categories of life enforced under colonial systems. Masks are mandatory.

Vous aurez l’occasion de consulter des documents d’archives qui ont inspiré son projet The Weed in Your Garden, ainsi qu’une application de réalité augmentée développée au cours des dernières semaines. La présentation de son travail sera suivie d’une discussion avec la commissaire et historienne de l’art Mojeanne Behzadi. The Weed in Your Garden fait partie d'un projet plus vaste qui étudie les relations entre les humains, les plantes et les lieux. Au fil de ses recherches sur la botanique, la politique coloniale et les flux migratoires, Anahita Norouzi utilise les plantes délocalisées et leur classification à titre d’« espèces étrangères et envahissantes » pour explorer les dimensions écologiques et sociales de la migration au Canada. Grâce aux similitudes linguistiques entre la façon dont les institutions coloniales classent et contrôlent la vie végétale et la migration humaine, Norouzi retrace les catégories de vie diminuées imposées par les systèmes coloniaux.
