After day 1 this will be a breeze.  This will be a fun workshop.  We all will learn together.The main focus of the workshop is to work with a wet on wet or wet on dry technique.  Applying paint to wet paper can be both challenging and frustrating.  The paint diffuses and floods out onto the paper creating exciting and expressive washes.  Different pigments interact to create beautiful and emotional combinations and shapes.  The task is to learn to take advantage of what happens on the paper and to control where possible  the flow of color. How much water and pigment? How wet is the paper?  These are some of the questions we must be constantly asking ourselves when working with this technique. Working this way is spontaneous and exciting but it also presents certain hazards.  Backruns, streaks, puddling, etc. are all pitfalls we must learn to avoid.The format for the workshop will consist of critique, demonstration, and painting sessions. The demonstrations are based on technique not on subject matter.  It's the technique that is important.  We will break down the main elements of a painting and basic technique and work on them.Then put them together to create a successful composition.  We will be discussing value, negative spaces, centre of interest, perspective, movement and the emotional qualities that make up an effective art work. I also will bring lots of tubes of paint with me which can be shared.  Good quality paint is important.In your palette you should have:Ceruleum Blue-Holbein Brilliant #1 & 2.  Sometimes 1 & 2 are very hard to get from your supplier.Burnt Sienna (a must have)Indigo ( a must)Burnt umberRaw umberSepia (a must), Lemon  yellow or cad light. If you can't get then sharing is good.  I also will be bringing some acrylics & ink.  If we have time I will demo a multi media painting. Don't bring any as mine will work.Palette TrayThis is very important. I like my students to be able to have a large area to mix lots of Paint.  This is very difficult with a small pan area.  I use a Sushi porcelin tray.  Any white large glass tray works (ex turkey platter).  Professional butcher trays also work.BrushesBring all the brushes you have and that you are usually using.  However, make sure you have a very good Linner Brush.  Also a large 8 or 10 round or flat.  This will get water down fast on your paper.  All is workable and even homemade (rake is also good).StuffHairdryer, masking tape, masking fluid, box Kleenex, Metal Palette Knife, at least two large water containers, table salt or pickling or sea salt.  I usually use table salt.  Bring what you have. Spray bottle. Ideas & Open Mind.
