We will receive access to a Banff Centre dance studio for three weeks to work on adjusting and solidifying this work. A showcase of the work will be held at the Banff Centre’s Jenny Belzberg Theatre February 23-24, 2024 || Family Room (world premiere) || Family Room recreates a studio apartment through a set design of furniture and home decor. This is the foundation for a series of solos to interact with the same household objects, each object representing a relationship, dynamic, and history between different family members. Shows: April 19th and 20th, 2024 @ Scotiabank Dance Centre. This work is presented in partnership with New Works and The Scotiabank Dance Centre || Dance Victoria Artist-in-Residence || Marissa will be collaborating with filmmaker Jared Davis during a 10 day residency in Victoria, BC. Marissa’s movement background of ballet, contemporary dance, aerial silks, and contact improvisation compliments Jared’s background in Parkour, breaking, house dance and hustle. The Falling Company leads with sustainability and broadening art making in the community. Our works and artistic process expand inquiry where collaboration intersects varied ideas, specialization, communities, and interdisciplinary practices. The Falling Company decolonizes arts making by providing equity, equality, and balance of power to all participants. Enriched practices are shared through accessible education where the dance art form is varied.
