Join us for this hands on restoration workshop, to help us remove himalayan blackberry, an invasive species that when left unchecked can take over ecosystems.
At Maplewood Flats over 90% of the site is covered by invasive species like himalayan blackberry and english ivy. Our goal is to reduce and mitigate the spread, while also respecting and acknowledging that blackberry does provide food and shelter for birds and other animals. We are working hard to restore the land at Maplewood Flats by doing sessions like this to reduce the spread and plant native plants which are well suited to the environment and provide numerous ecological benefits to wildlife.
During this workshop we will be supporting volunteers in how to remove himalayan blackberry and reduce its spread. This work is extremely important and is normally restricted to the public. If you would like to join in this important work, please grab a ticket as numbers are limited (we can only allow small numbers in the area at a time).
We will provide hi-vis vests, gardening gloves and tools. If you have any of your own gear, you are welcome to bring it. Please dress for the weather as this work will be done in rain or shine. If you have any questions, please email kristen@wildbirdtrust.org
