First, students will create a laser-engraved acrylic plate to print a small edition. Secondly, they will create a small engraved rubber stamp to identify their prints. Students will learn how to compose an ideal image for laser engraving and intaglio, including how best to enhance their images for the machine. A large part of the course will be devoted to learning the software workflow, from Photoshop to Illustrator, to generate files for the laser machine. Safe use of the laser machine will also be emphasized. We'll see how to select and prepare the right material for intaglio printing. Finally, students will learn how to ink and print their final artwork.
