International Perspectives on Attitudes Toward Stuttering

April 12, 2022: Objectives - For more than two decades, Ken St. Louis has focused his research on better understanding and then ameliorating public stereotypes and public stigma related to stuttering and other human conditions in the International Project on Attitudes Toward Human Attributes (IPATHA). Ken will share findings of cultural, vocational, and national similarities and differences in stuttering attitudes, attitude development, and improving public attitudes. He will also touch on comparisons to public attitudes toward cluttering, obesity, and mental illness and future directions.
Treating of adolescents who stutter with creativity

March 15, 2022: Objective - Multidimensional, Integrated, Differentiated, Art-Mediated Stuttering Program, MIDA-SP is a program based on a multidimensional approach that designs the treatment based on the characteristics of the person who stutters and their family, using new and motivating tools that go beyond strictly behavioural strategies and techniques. Donatella Tomaiuoli, Speech Therapist and Psychopedagogist, is specialized in the assessment and treatment of stuttering. Francesca Del Gad specializes in assessment and treatment of stuttering for all age groups.

February 22, 2022: Objective - Participants will learn about the five “stages of change” and how this framework can be utilized in stuttering therapy to maximize adolescents’ engagement in the change process. Clinical strategies for motivation-based discussions and activities will be offered. Naomi H. Rodgers, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

February 1, 2022 (90 Minutes): Objectives - This presentation is focused on the neurobiology of stuttering. A general understanding of neurobiological aspects is of importance for clinicians working with stuttering, as the theoretical basis has implications for the clinical approach and methods. Per Alm’s research is focused on understanding the nature of stuttering, including biological aspects, emotions, learning, by trying to integrate available research on stuttering with the general current understanding of physiology and the brain. *This webinar is 90 minutes, from Noon to 1:30pm (NYC time)
