Tackling this complex challenge requires an all of society approach, with collective action from businesses, academia, government, industry, civil society and local communities. With your support the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup can continue to provide amazing opportunities for all ages and backgrounds to play a critical role in putting an end to plastic pollution in our lakes and rivers. Our events engage community members and corporate employees in meaningful activities that foster stronger relationships and further enhance teamwork. Your involvement will demonstrate your/your company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, helping you achieve your own community and sustainability goals. Waste characterizations are an integral component of our program. Volunteers help sort and characterize plastic collected by our plastic capture technologies while learning about the plastic pollution problem in their local waterbodies. This event is an important opportunity to collect data on the plastic that we’re finding in our lakes, which contributes to increased understanding of the extent of the issue in the Great Lakes.
