On Friday February 9th 2024 feast on a screening of John Samson’s inspired documentary DRESSING FOR PLEASURE (1977). Bathe in the operatic magnificence of DEIDRE. Rage to the penetrating sounds of MILEY SERIOUS, LU2K and ESME. An evening of carnal indulgence, delightful immodesty and visceral liberty. DRESSING FOR PLEASURE - Produced in 1977 for British Public Television, DRESSING FOR PLEASURE features a raw and pragmatic look at the latex and rubber scene in the UK, approaching the fetish with a matter of factness that is almost quaint. Applauded for its style and sensibility, the documentary offers a window into a unique subculture, allowing the subject to speak for itself. Promptly banned as a video nasty, the documentary was an immediate sensation among British fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood and served as a major inspiration within the British punk scene of the 70s/80s. Anarchist filmmaker John Samson faded into relative obscurity decades before his death in 2004 at the age of 58. Contemporarily, he is commended and admired for all of his documentary work.
