Welcome to ACIC's Symposium Auction! The paintings up for auction were created and donated by Juan Vincente Sanchez Martinez and Jennie Williams, two participants of the First Voices program between 2006-2011. The program brought together Indigenous youth from Atlantic Canada,  Guatemala, Chile, Honduras, Botswana, and the Philippines to create art of all kinds -- visual art, dance, film, photography, and more.  A textile artwork was also donated by ACIC member Louise Webb. The proceeds from the auction will support the ACIC Awards. The Shirley Case Leadership Award in Global Citizenship was created in 2009 in honour of Shirley Case, a former ACIC intern who was killed in Afghanistan while working with the International Rescue Committee. The award is presented annually to an individual or group in Atlantic Canada who has demonstrated the spirit of global citizenship and helped create a more just and sustainable world through engaging in meaningful global citizenship activities. The Leo Cheverie Significant Achievement Award was created in 2023 in honour of Leo Cheverie, a past board member and friend of ACIC. Leo was a longtime social justice, environment, labour, and global justice advocate from PEI who exemplified a lifetime of consistent and significant contribution to global solidarity, volunteerism, and activism. The award recognizes community leaders who have made significant contributions to their local and global communities. These awards recognize today's outstanding Atlantic Canadians in the memory of yesterday's outstanding Atlantic Canadians. Thank you for supporting their efforts and continuing their legacy. Bids will close at 12:30 pm on Thursday, June 19th, and must be picked up by the end of the symposium at SMU.  Thank you for your support, and happy bidding!
