Arpillera Workshop: Textile Storytelling, Memory &amp; Resistance&nbsp;🧵✨🌿Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the rich tradition of arpilleras &mdash; a Chilean textile art form rooted in storytelling, resistance, and collective memory ❤️🪡Originating during the dictatorship in Chile, arpilleras were created primarily by women using fabric scraps, embroidery, and found materials to document everyday life, political violence, resilience, and hope ✂️🧶🕊️ Today, arpilleras continue as a powerful artistic and community practice used to explore themes such as feminism ✊🏽, migration 🌎, environmental justice 🌱, identity 💫, belonging 🤝, and collective care 💛 across diasporic communities. Through guided reflection, dialogue, and art-making 🎨, participants will create their own textile piece while engaging with storytelling and shared experiences. This workshop supports the Palestinian Cultural Arts Collective&rsquo;s mission to nurture resilience, cultural pride, and solidarity in Peel and beyond. Her multidisciplinary practice weaves together graphic design, a deep love for textiles, and community engagement. She studied Graphic Design in Santiago, Chile, and completed a diploma in Interactive Media Design at Seneca College in Toronto. She also holds additional studies in photography, pattern design, and art direction for film and television. Andrea&rsquo;s work has been exhibited at the Alliance Fran&ccedil;aise of Ecuador, the Textile Museum of Canada (as part of a workshop organized by IC Contemporary), and at design and cultural markets including CREATO, Wychwood Barns, and Evergreen Brick Works&rsquo; Day of the Dead celebration. She is an active member of Watermelon Seeds Collective and Tatreez Circle, where she co-organizes community-based workshops focused on textiles, resistance, and cultural memory. Her work explores Latin American identity, and is rooted in a desire to honor and make visible the stories and struggles of women and children. Andrea finds deep joy in working with her hands and sharing creative experiences with others. Over time, collaborative making has become a source of connection, learning, and healing. She is committed to teaching, sharing knowledge, and contributing meaningfully from her place in the world.
