This traditional technique comes from Ayacucho, located in Perú. Andean textile traditions date back as early as 3000 BC and have huge cultural significance, as well as bold colours and outstanding beauty. This class will consist of understanding the stitches used for Ayacuchan embroidery and putting them to practice by embroidering one of their most used patterns: a highland flower. This design can then be turned into either a patch or a small coin purse. All skill levels welcome, no experience necessary! ABOUT THE ARTIST My name is Valeria and I am originally from Lima, Perú but been living in Vancouver for over 5 years. I’ve been embroidering since 2015 with an embroidery master from Ayacucho and learned all my crafts thanks to her.
