Join us for an engaging online panel discussion on Inclusive Design. This event will feature a diverse lineup of speakers, each bringing unique perspectives on creating spaces that embrace accessibility, adaptability, and diversity.  Our panelists include Samantha Ryan and Randi McAlpine from ABE Factors, Sarah Delaney from HCMA, Karin Pasqua from Meaningful Access and Jane Vorbordt from Kuno Architecture. From accessibility standards to equitable design practices, our panelists will share insights and strategies for designing welcoming spaces for all. Whether you’re an architect, designer, or simply passionate about inclusivity, this discussion will offer valuable ideas and practical approaches to help shape a more accessible future. This event will be held over zoom and will have closed captioning.  This event qualifies for AIBC 1 Core Learning Unit. Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm  Cost: $5 <hr />SPEAKERS <hr />Karin Pasqua: Karin Pasqua is an RHFAC Professional and Accessibility &amp; Universal Design Consultant with a passion for beautiful, functional design. She has a deep understanding that spaces and events in our communities should be enjoyed by everyone, of all abilities. She has expertise in working with municipalities and community spaces. Karin likes to say that she is part engineer and part occupational therapist. She has a natural affinity for adapting an environment and turning what some see as complex access problems, into thoughtful barrier-free solutions. Samantha Ryan: Samantha Ryan, C.E.T., RHFAC  Principal of ABE Factors Inc, Co-Founder ProHara Inc.  Technical Accessibility Specialist  Best Selling Co-Author: Building Better Bathrooms  Samantha Ryan is a leading Canadian technical accessibility specialist and nationally recognized accessibility compliance consultant with over 13 years of experience working on some of Canada’s largest and most complex building projects. Samantha is a designated Certified RHFAC Professional Assessor and former instructor of the RHFAC Program with over 100 RHFAC Ratings completed to-date. Samantha sits on or Chairs various National Accessibility Technical Committees including Accessible Standards Canada Emergency Egress for Persons with Disabilities, National Research Council Use and Egress Committee, is the Chair of the NRC Accessibility Task Group, Canadian Standards Association CSA B651, and the Chair of CSA B652 Accessible Dwellings as well the RHFAC Technical Committee. Her expertise in making technical accessibility easy, allows her clients to demonstrate the ability to go beyond to create environments that everyone can flourish within.   Randi MacAlpine: Randi MacAlpine is a technical accessibility consultant and a fellow RHFAC Professional and technical subcommittee member. With a master’s degree in architecture, she has developed a deep commitment to identifying, removing and preventing barriers, while maximizing mind-friendly inclusivity. With specialized research in neurodiverse design, she has established herself as somewhat of a pioneer in developing some of today's most comprehensive guidelines that will help architects and designers design more accessible and supportive environments for people who are neurodivergent. Randi continually strives to advance inclusivity and re-envision the spectrum of accessibility, to ensure everyone feels supported within their surroundings. Jane Vorbrodt, Architect AIBC, RHFAC: Jane Vorbrodt, principal of Kuno Architecture Inc., focuses on the interface of accessibility and architecture through advocacy, research, and design. Her collaborative approach combines technical expertise with inclusive thinking. Through direct engagement, she advocates for meaningful collaboration with people who have lived experience with disability to shape a new and improved architectural language. Sarah Delaney: Sarah Delaney is passionate about fostering access, inclusion, and equity, recognizing the vital role design plays in shaping healthy, sustainable communities. As an Inclusive Design Advisor at HCMA Architecture + Design, she ensures that environments are accessible and welcoming to all.
