Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors. Led by biologist Andrew Huang, this walk will introduce you to the birds found at Iona Beach Regional Park. See birds like Western sandpipers, Yellow-rumped warblers, and Red-winged blackbirds while meeting new people and sharing in the outdoors. My name is Andrew and I’m currently a biologist at the Canadian Wildlife Service. Growing up in Taipei and Vancouver, I never took notice of the wildlife around me despite always being surrounded by the water and mountains. It wasn’t until university that I started noticing the diversity of birds and other wildlife around me, and that you really don’t have to go far from your house to see them. Did you know that Richmond isn’t just about eating delicious dumpling soup noodles or taking a stroll in a fishing wharf? At Iona, you will be dazzled by the diversity and abundance of birds! This 2-hour trip at Iona will include a visit to a banding station to see songbirds close-up, as well as a bird walk through the marshes, beaches, and forests.
