Come and celebrate the permanent conservation of 2,000 acres of wilderness between the La Cloche Mountains and Killarney Provincial Park on July 16th!  Heaven's Gate in Ojibwe, is Kitchitwaa Shekwaandem, signifying a path to a heavenly place.   The site is all of that, and Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy is conscious that it has the care of a place that is part of the age-old patrimony of the Odawa and Anishnabek and which has with sound reason become central to all Canadians’ sense of the land. EBC is privileged to have responsibility for its care and will work with all who care to ensure the land endures.  This area is home to at least 12 species at risk including: Algonquin (Eastern) Wolf, Peregrine falcon, Whip-poor-will, Snapping turtle, Bald eagle, Eastern meadowlark, Blanding's turtle, Monarch butterfly, Red-headed woodpecker, Canada warbler. Itinerary:1:00pm-1:30pm - Ceremony at trail head  - Meet at Gate 31:30pm - Walk the new trail to view point on Mt. Arabella5:00pm-7:00pm - Reception at Whitefish Falls Community Centre. The reception will have food and drinks provided for free.  There will be no alcohol served at this event. Other Useful information: How long is the hike?We have two hike options:6km - Arabella loop. This hike is more challenging with steep sections.5km - Gorge trail (2.5km out and back). Gentle uphills. Overall an easier hike option. Please bring suitable footwear and plenty of water and snacks to keep you hydrated and energized! Parking and carpooling:Due to a limited parking  at Gate 3 and Whitefish Falls Community Center, we suggest that you carpool as much as possible. If you know of a few people wanting to go, share a ride with them. We will also be putting on a shuttle service run by staff and a few volunteers, so moving between Gate 3 and the Community Center will be easier. Cost: The day, hike, snacks at reception are FREE. If you can, please contribute whatever you can to defray EBC's costs for the event.
