Joyce Joumaa creates narratives inspired by an archaeology of conflict, reimagining its relationship to the site and to the actors who contributed to its emergence. She is currently exploring the mechanisms behind the current economic crisis in Lebanon. In this piece, Joumaa draws inspiration from the visual elements found on Lebanese paper currency. The artist is specifically interested in the Temple of Bacchus, known for its historical, cultural and touristic importance in Lebanon. In her conversation, she attempts to deconstruct elements of this archaeological site and then of the coinage, in order to reflect the precarious state of the Lebanese currency in the wake of the economic crisis.

Joyce Joumaa crée des récits qui sont inspirés d’une archéologie du conflit en réimaginant son rapport au lieu et aux acteur·rice·s qui ont contribué à son émergence. Elle explore présentement les pistes ayant mené à la crise économique actuelle au Liban et les mécanismes qui les sous-tendent.  Dans cette œuvre, Joumaa s’inspire des éléments visuels trouvés sur les papiers de monnaies libanaises. L'artiste s'intéresse spécifiquement au Temple de Bacchus, connu pour son importance historique, culturelle et touristique au Liban. Dans sa conversation, elle essaie de décortiquer des éléments de ce site archéologique et ensuite de la monnaie, afin de refléter l'état de précarité de la monnaie libanaise suite à la crise économique.
