What might Christianity in the future look like? &nbsp;Some contemporary strands that have caught much media attention are Christian nationalism, strongly conservative fundamentalism, and evangelical missionary megachurches in the majority world. The Institute for Contemplative Ecology (I4C) is hosting sustained engagement into this question taking the following position: the current moment of global polycrisis, foremost among which is the ecological crisis, could inform and catalyze the transformation of Christianity into an Earth-based, ecologically grounded, spirituality. Join us this September 11-13 for the first in a planned retreat series to explore this position, focusing on the theme of &ldquo;Christian animism&rdquo;. Can a radically transcendent theology of a God whose spirit is above and beyond Creation be reconciled with a worldview that sees Spirit as radically immanent in a living Earth? Does the Good News of Jesus&rsquo; saving sacrifice overcoming our earthly nature mean that we trade our frail and finite animal bodies for a disembodied eternity? What is the relation of the &ldquo;Christian Spirit&rdquo; to Nature and to the Earth? Rev. Shawn Sanford Beck, author of the book Christian Animism, will co-facilitate this retreat with I4C Director Christopher Peet.
