We have both grown up to build good lives and families of our own and work hard to give our children whatever we can to fulfill their dreams. So far, my son has had modest dreams of karate and swimming lessons. Last year, she got to row at the Olympic venue in Paris and her boat placed 9th in the world for her event. This year is being held in St. Catharines, Ontario and she is sitting in the stroke seat for the Junior Women's 8+ (JW8+). That means she sets the pace for the entire team during the race. This event is expensive. She has been in Ontario, staying with a billet family and training since the end of June because she is from outside of Ontario. From flights, training expenses and entry fees, this one competition will cost her family $6,500 when it's all said and done. Her parents happily sacrifice whatever they have to in order to support their kids athletic endeavors, but they're not wealthy or have opportunity handed to them.
