This February the Scratch Night will be celebrating the artistic development process with two amazing groups of creators: the participants of the Soul Canvas artist mentorship program and b current performing arts’ Freedom: A Mixtape ensemble. The evening will start with a sharing by the amazing young artists of Soul Canvas, a group of BIPOC female-presenting and gender non-conforming folks who have been exploring creative expression with an incredible roster of professional Black artists for the past five months. Participants will share writing and movement and music and a fun interactive element. Witness what the Soul Canvas participants have been learning from 5 incredible black artists: Eve Atoms, DijahSB, Shannon Kitchings, Ogboma Horsfall and Dienye Waboso Amajor. For the second half of the evening, we are so excited to present b current performing arts’ production of Freedom: A Mixtape, which originated at Suitcase in Point in 2020 as an online auditory experience. The show returns to St Catharines for a live performance as part of its cross-province tour. Freedom: A Mixtape sheds light on the harsh realities of racism faced by many in our community, challenging stereotypes and fostering a gritty celebration of resilience. Join us for a poetic immersive journey where this talented ensemble of artists courageously challenge societal norms through unapologetic stories, songs, and spoken word.
