Introduction: This 3-hour workshop, open to all levels, explores photography as a way to engage with memory, absence, and belonging. Participants will reflect on the people, places, and experiences they miss, and consider how images can document identity, loss, and continuity. Participants will engage in chemigram—the process of painting on light-sensitive photographic paper using silver halide and developing chemicals—to create images that capture moments of memory and sensation that were never photographed. Photography here becomes an intentional act of preserving and reconnecting with personal experiences, loved ones, and meaningful places. Through discussion, written reflection, and hands-on intervention, participants will transform black-and-white photographs using color, markers, and paint to visually express memory and longing. Each participant should bring a personal photograph along with a black-and-white copy. The workshop combines creative experimentation with thoughtful reflection, allowing memory to unfold as both a personal and shared experience. Important Note: This workshop involves the use of photographic developers and fixers, which may have odors and are potentially hazardous.
