About IUCN CEM and the Urban Ecosystems SWG
IUCN’s Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM) is one of seven commissions of experts that provide IUCN and its members with sound know-how and policy advice to drive conservation and sustainable development. CEM promotes ecosystem-based approaches for the management of landscapes and seascapes, provides guidance and support for ecosystem-based management and promotes resilient socio-ecological systems to address global challenges.
The CEM Urban Ecosystems Specialist Working Group’s (SWG), led by Jennifer Rae Pierce, aims to build a network to bring scientists, practitioners, and policy and decision makers together to advance our ecological understanding of urban areas, and to better plan and design urban ecosystems to increase their sustainability and resilience.
About UBHub
Urban Biodiversity Hub (UBHub) is an international NGO that supports the measurement and monitoring of urban impacts on nature in order to improve and inform local biodiversity strategies that contribute to global biodiversity goals. Their vision is a world where every city incorporates global biodiversity loss into their decision-making.
UBHub hosts the most comprehensive database on current local strategies and urban programmes for biodiversity. They partner with major international organizations to provide guidance on existing urban biodiversity strategy frameworks and to develop new tools for urban application. They have consulted with IUCN to create theUrban Nature Indexes, the first comprehensive and flexible system that guides cities on how to measure and improve their impact on nature.
