With rising food prices, saving money while still finding healthy and delicious food is becoming more challenging than ever. Meanwhile, the average Canadian household wastes 79 kg of food annually, and the country wastes on average 46% of all food. Preventing food waste is a simple action that individuals can take to increase food sovereignty and food security. And food preservation is one of the best ways to prevent food waste, especially during the fall harvest season, when produce is plentiful and at its peak! To create an accessible way to learn about food preservation, Earth&#39;s Refillery Coop, Edmonton Horticultural Society, and New Grocery Movement are holding a 3-part Canning Series! &nbsp; The theme of our first workshop is Lacto-Fermentation. We&#39;ll learn the basics of pickling and fermentation techniques, one of the easiest canning methods! Participants will learn about food safety, how to replicate this easy method at home, and take home a couple jars of vegetables. We will be providing all of the tools and vegetables needed for the class.&nbsp; Our two future workshops are planned for the following dates, with more details to come:- Mon Sept 21&nbsp;- Mon Oct 05 Make sure to sign up for all 3 to gain all the key skills for food preservation. Doors open at 5:45pm with the workshop starting at 6pm.&nbsp; Accessibility:There are sloped entrances on the north and west sides of the piazza. The doors are non-automatic.. Please reach out if you need assistance with the doors. There is a gender-neutral, barrier-free washroom.&nbsp; There is free street parking on 95st &amp; 108a Ave and the location can be accessed by public transit.&nbsp; Feel free to bring extra jars as we might have extra veggies to can.
