Intermediate and advanced players, come test your game on wheels for a good cause. 80% of proceeds go directly to our four Afro-Caribbean athletes for their wheelchairs, training, and tournament travel, and 20% supports Ottawa Loves Tennis programming.

Tennis was never built with our community in mind. For a long time the game has carried a quiet message that it belongs to someone else, somewhere else, behind a membership and a dress code. That stereotype still lingers, and it keeps too many of our people from ever picking up a racquet. Then there is the cost, which quietly turns &quot;give it a try&quot; into &quot;maybe one day.&quot;Now imagine carrying all of that and playing from a wheelchair. The barriers do not just add up, they multiply. A tennis-specific sport chair can run several thousand dollars, often as much as a used car, before you have paid for a single hour of court time. Coaching, programming, and travel to compete pile on top. For Afro-Caribbean athletes who play wheelchair tennis, the love of the game is the easy part. Everything around it is where the weight sits.That is why we are doing this.On Saturday, August 15th, Ottawa Loves Tennis invites you to Give It A Go, a community fundraiser where anyone can pick up a racquet, get into a sport wheelchair, and feel what our athletes feel every time they take the court. No experience needed, and you do not need to be a wheelchair user. Able-bodied players are especially welcome, and if you play at an intermediate or advanced level, come test your game and see how it holds up on wheels, all for a good cause.We are raising funds for four Afro-Caribbean wheelchair tennis athletes from our community: Wale Favour Adelayi, William Ukari, Foluke Dorcas Shodeinde, and Temitope Hassan.
