what if we could float through time and space on a musical journey to witness the evolution of how people choose to express feelings through sound, and perhaps even come to understand them in all their strangeness and sincerity? this concert is a series of historical musical pieces connected to each other by new pieces that weave diverse ancient sounds together into a cohesive musical variety show. in each set, the composers of twisted pearl are the new threads that assemble a quilt of the various scraps left by people of the past. because twisted pearl believes that music is for everyone, we are not ashamed to represent the great diversity of high quality pieces from the western musical lineage by including several works composed by musicians from severely under-represented backgrounds. our imagined journey through time and space, from germany in 1600 to québec in 2026, is a testament to our distinct ability to connect and integrate the music of the past into the present by recontextualizing it and making music ourselves. by stitching together some of our favourite bits, we illustrate that all contributions to our musical heritage are important, and that all people are invited to join us in this exceptional evening of music and revelry.
