The basic course for 1-row diatonic accordion is intended for both students of all ages and teachers seeking relevant pedagogical tools.
Didactic exercises, sheet music and tablatures of a selected repertoire as well as tips and advice; all elements that promote learning this instrument that we wish to see spread to as many people as possible.
The method, divided into three levels (preparatory, elementary 1 and elementary 2) is aimed at anyone who has never touched the instrument, regardless of age, including those who want to review some basics. Through the pages of these three books, the authors also provide numerous practical tips and tricks to bring their expertise and guide teachers and students.
Audio soundtracks have been developed to support your learning and complement your rhythmic reference. Note that in all cases, learning by imitation or "by ear" remains an absolutely privileged mode of transmission in Quebec's living tradition.
Designed by Raynald Ouellet, Sabin Jacques and Rachel Aucoin

Surrounded by a family of musicians, Gérard Marois became interested in traditional music at a very young age. His father was an excellent fiddler as well as an accordionist and step dancer.

At five years old, Gérard won his first trophy with uncommon energy at the Belisle Theatre in L'Islet in the step dancing category. Later, with his sister Francine Desjardins and his father, they would make several regional events successful by playing at family gatherings and dance evenings. Subsequently, in his journey as a fiddler, Mr. Marois played with several musicians and was part of numerous Quebec music orchestras. At one time, he played up to three times a week. His popularity was undeniable throughout the Montmagny-L'Islet region.
Mr. Marois is particularly fond of Don Messer, Isidore Soucy and André Desjarlis and he never misses an opportunity to listen to a recording by these exceptional musicians. These great fiddlers have been important references for him both for playing style and repertoire.
For his first album, Gérard Marois performs with pleasure and great enthusiasm pieces he chose from his repertoire collected over the years and through encounters. Mr. Marois plays here with an instrument of great sentimental value since it is his father's violin which he makes vibrate with great passion. Gérard Marois is one of those tradition bearers who keep alive an important aspect of Quebec culture.
Mr. Marois wishes to thank Rachel and Sabin for their generous welcome during the recording session held in August 2013 in Beaumont.

Jean-Paul Guimond is an exceptional tradition bearer. At 82 years old, Jean-Paul has a phenomenal memory.
Musical excerpts and digital version available for purchase on bandcamp https://maremusique.bandcamp.com/album/jean-paul-guimond-fournisseur-officiel
He preserves hundreds of songs that he learned mainly from his father Hormidas Guimond, his mother Alice Chénard, and his neighbors and friends. Anyone who meets Jean-Paul and hears him sing immediately perceives all the energy that drives this man in his desire to transmit to others what he has learned.
Born in Wotton in the Eastern Townships, Jean-Paul has accompanied his work on the family farm with his songs. Over the years, Jean-Paul has become a reference for traditional Quebec song. This is how many singers and musical groups have come to meet him, to learn with him the songs they have featured on their albums.
Jean-Paul is detail-oriented and in recent years, he presents himself as a song "repairer." "A song can get broken while traveling from one ear to another." He likes a song's story to hold together and that's why he adds, without embarrassment, a missing verse, corrects a rhyme, or adapts a text according to logic inspired by his great knowledge of the traditional Quebec repertoire.
Maréemusique is proud to present, in collaboration with the Centre de valorisation du patrimoine vivant, some of Mr. Guimond's treasures. This album follows the concert "Tribute to Jean-Paul Guimond" held at the Musée de la civilisation in January 2015.

Francine Desjardins embodies an undeniable feminine force in the world of traditional music in Quebec. Already in 1975, her first title was released: Reine de l'accordéon (Queen of the Accordion).
Musical excerpts and digital version available for purchase on bandcamp https://maremusique.bandcamp.com/album/francine-desjardins-tout-simplement
Unshakeable, she has accumulated experiences ever since, both in terms of her impressive discography and her active career as a traditional evening musician. Ambassador of our folklore at various festivals in Europe, Quebec and elsewhere in the country, Francine was introduced to the accordion in the family kitchen. Indeed, her father was said to be an excellent fiddler, step dancer and accordionist. It was therefore quite naturally that Francine took over by becoming one of the most sought-after traditional evening musicians in Quebec.
Francine Desjardins is the queen of the accordion, quite simply!

Born in 1940, Réjean grew up in a family in Ste-Louise where dance music spontaneously colored life. Initially influenced by his fiddler father, it was when his brother brought an accordion home that Réjean, then 12 years old, discovered his passion for this instrument.
Musical excerpts and digital version available for purchase on Bandcamp. https://maremusique.bandcamp.com/album/r-jean-lizotte-lultime-album
From 1959 and for more than 30 years, he traveled across Quebec with the orchestra Les frères Lizotte, formed with his brothers: Jean-Paul, Joseph and Maurice.
An original and prolific composer, he forged his own style, first by listening to records by Gérard Lajoie, who inspired him most for his compositions. It must be said that Mr. Lizotte has always known how to surround himself well, particularly as organizer of the Journée folklorique de Ste-Louise, between 1983 and 2010. A true day of meetings, exchanges and enhancement of living heritage, traditional musicians will talk about it for a long time to come!
Several pieces by Mr. Lizotte have inspired well-known musicians: Denis Côté, Philippe Bruneau, as well as La Bottine Souriante. Following his last album made in 2004 entitled "D'hier à aujourd'hui" (From Yesterday to Today), we are very proud to count him among the Heritage Collection for the ultimate gift of a musical life: the ultimate album!
