For its Spring 2026 concert, the St. Lawrence Choir presents Renaissances, a journey through the history of choral music, from the refinement of the Renaissance to the rediscovery of sacred song in the 19th century. The first half will showcase the brilliance of European Renaissance polyphony, featuring emblematic works by William Byrd, Cl&eacute;ment Janequin, and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. These masters of sacred music united spiritual fervor and vocal balance in works of timeless beauty. The second half will evoke the choral revival of the 19th and 20th centuries, marked by a return to the purity of a cappella singing and inner expression. It will feature works by Edward Elgar, Maurice Durufl&eacute;, and Camille Saint-Sa&euml;ns, composers whose music blends lyricism, contemplation, and spiritual depth. Under the direction of guest conductor Andrew Gray, the St. Lawrence Choir will bring these works to life, celebrating the vitality and continuity of the choral art across the centuries.

Pour son concert du printemps 2026, le Ch&oelig;ur St-Laurent pr&eacute;sente Les renaissances , un voyage &agrave; travers l&rsquo;histoire de la musique chorale, du raffinement de la Renaissance &agrave; la red&eacute;couverte du chant sacr&eacute; au XIXᵉ si&egrave;cle. La premi&egrave;re partie mettra en lumi&egrave;re l&rsquo;&eacute;clat de la polyphonie de la Renaissance europ&eacute;enne, avec notamment des &oelig;uvres embl&eacute;matiques de William Byrd, Cl&eacute;ment Janequin et Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Ces ma&icirc;tres de la musique sacr&eacute;e ont su unir ferveur spirituelle et &eacute;quilibre vocal dans des oeuvres d&rsquo;une beaut&eacute; intemporelle. La seconde partie &eacute;voquera la renaissance chorale des XIXᵉ et XXᵉ si&egrave;cles, marqu&eacute;e par un retour &agrave; la puret&eacute; du chant a cappella et &agrave; l&rsquo;expression int&eacute;rieure. La première partie mettra en lumière l’éclat de la polyphonie de la Renaissance européenne, avec notamment des œuvres emblématiques de William Byrd, Clément Janequin et Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Ces maîtres de la musique sacrée ont su unir ferveur spirituelle et équilibre vocal dans des oeuvres d’une beauté intemporelle. La seconde partie évoquera la renaissance chorale des XIXᵉ et XXᵉ siècles, marquée par un retour à la pureté du chant a cappella et à l’expression intérieure. On y retrouvera notamment Edward Elgar, Maurice Duruflé et Camille Saint-Saëns, dont les œuvres allient lyrisme, recueillement et profondeur spirituelle. Sous la direction du chef invité Andrew Gray, le Chœur St-Laurent fera résonner ces œuvres qui témoignent de la vitalité et de la continuité de l’art choral à travers les siècles.
