Join us at the Guelph Farmers' Market for a screening of 'The M Factor' followed by a panel discussion from local healthcare practitioners. Doors open at 6:30PM, film starts at 7:00PM. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door. “The [M] Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause,” a feature-length documentary film, centers on the lived experiences of women across the U.S. Cameras follow women into their doctors’ offices, at work, and in their homes to expose the challenges they face—including racial biases, gender-ignorant care, inequitable structures and systems, and barriers due to the lack of basic healthcare research. The women featured here open up about their experiences and share their stories of enduring debilitating symptoms while being ignored, ridiculed and/or shamed—and left untreated. Now there’s a movement to fix the broken system, change the culture and transform our future. “The [M] Factor”turns the spotlight on the progress being made. With input from emboldened physicians, healthcare advocates and leaders in the menopause movement, the film focuses on what is being done to address this public health crisis and offers solutions that can be replicated in medical communities and workplaces across the country. “The [M] Factor” gives women, their physicians and their advocates a voice and a chance to be seen, heard and respected.  A panel discussion will follow led by Dr. Janine Buisman Wilcox, Naturopathic Doctor.  Panelists include: Megan Dunn (Nurse Practitioner), Monica Pease (Social Worker), and Heidi Smith (Registered Dietician).  These four practitioners have supported many patients throughout their menopause journey and will reflect on: - standards of care in perimenopause and menopause- relevance of the film and parallel experiences navigating the Canadian healthcare system- gaps in care they are seeing in their practices- takeaways to support women in this journey There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask panelists questions. The Panelists: Monica Pease, MSW RSW Monica (she/her) is a post-menopausal woman who provides psychotherapy, counselling, and skill-building strategies to clients as they navigate the world of mental health and menopause care. In addition to a clinical practice in primary care, Monica runs a private practice in Guelph with a focus on adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression.  Having survived the impact of severe menopause symptoms while navigating the health system, she is able to offer you guidance on how to be an effective self-advocate and to care for yourself. During that time, she witnessed the profound impact of chronic disease, which motivated her to pursue a more proactive role in health promotion and disease prevention.In 2019, Megan completed a Master of Nursing degree with Primary Health Care certification and has since worked in primary care, with a focus on women's health. She is a member of The Menopause Society, and is working toward becoming a certified menopause practitioner. Megan is dedicated to improving access to collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-informed care for women.
