Room 2 – In creating this canvas, we explored the idea that art doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. Students were encouraged to try new things, take risks, and enjoy the process of making art without worrying about how it would turn out. Using colour, texture, and movement, they created pieces that reflected their thoughts and feelings in creative and personal ways.

"Dollhouse" Lake Bonavista School Room 3 (Grade 3/4) - Link This dollhouse was painted collaboratively by the students of Room 3. Everybody got a turn to paint. It was our first time using paint rollers. It was hard to paint the window frames, shingles, and door details. We decided to keep the colours simple, in case its future owner wants to paint it differently. This house is lightweight and easy to transport – it even has a handle – so you can take it with you and play with it anywhere.

The sticks create the look of natural stems, and both were glued on a white-washed wood background. The dimensions are 11” x 17” each (28 cm x 42.5 cm – student measured and verified) and includes a twine string for hanging.

"Ripped Paper Landscape" Lake Bonavista School Room 7 (Grade 5/6) - Burnham Watercolor landscape ripped paper art is a captivating and imaginative artistic technique that combines the delicate fluidity of watercolor painting with the bold, textured look of torn paper. This mixed-media approach allowed the students to create vibrant, dynamic landscapes while exploring the beauty of contrasts between smooth, painted surfaces and rough, torn edges. The process began with the creation of a watercolor landscape, where students used various hues to paint elements like skies, mountains, fields, rivers, or forests. The soft, blended colors of the watercolor paint capture the natural beauty and flow of the environment. The torn paper adds a three-dimensional effect, providing depth and dimension to the artwork, and students collaborated to experiment with colors, shapes, and textures while tearing paper and creating their own landscape stories. Each frame measures 14” x 14” (3 in total)

"Hands Down Corn Hole" Lake Bonavista School Room 10 (Grade 1/2) - Green In our art project called "Hands Down Corn Hole," each of us used our handprint to help create a big, colorful artwork that shows what community means! We dipped our hands in paint and pressed them onto the board, leaving behind a special mark that is just ours. Every handprint was unique—just like each one of us. But when we put them all together, they made a beautiful design that shows how we all belong in our classroom and work together as one team. This project helps us remember that in a community, everyone is important. When we all add our own special piece, we can build something amazing together!

"You Are... Jenga Blocks" Lake Bonavista School Room 12 (Grade 1/2) - Gierl In this heartwarming art project, students explored the power of positive words and self-affirmation by creating their own unique Jenga blocks. Each student selected and decorated wooden blocks using colour gradients and uplifting character traits that describe themselves or their classmates. As the blocks are stacked, they form a colorful tower of encouragement, symbolizing how each individual’s strengths support and build up the classroom community. This project combined visual art with social-emotional learning, helping students reflect on their own identities while celebrating the qualities that make everyone special. The result was not only a beautiful display but also a meaningful reminder that, just like in Jenga, every block—and every person—matters.
