Livestream Event Description &mdash; Opening Ceremonies for the Japanese Canadian Monument (Victoria, BC), hosted by Hamilton Chapter NAJC at CJCC HamiltonThe Hamilton Chapter National Association of Japanese Canadians will host a community livestream gathering on 3 October to coincide with the nation‑wide broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies for the Japanese Canadian Monument in Victoria, British Columbia. This monument, located at 839 Academy Close, Victoria, is a major legacy project recognising the history, uprooting, dispossession, and resilience of nearly 22,000 Japanese Canadians during the 1940s.&nbsp;The national livestream marks the formal unveiling of the Monument and is designed especially to honour survivors&mdash;those born before 1 April 1949 who directly experienced the BC government&rsquo;s wartime actions. The ceremony will include presentations on the Monument&rsquo;s creation, highlight footage of the 100 granite panels, and reflections on the community&rsquo;s history and ongoing commitment to education and reconciliation.&nbsp;Across Canada, Japanese Canadian organisations are hosting local viewing events so that community members may participate collectively. Hamilton NAJC/CJCC is listed as one of the official viewing locations. &nbsp;This gathering is the only location for the southwestern Ontario area. &nbsp; These gatherings provide a comfortable, accessible way for descendants, families, and supporters to witness the unveiling together.
