Try cross-country skiing in a friendly, low-pressure way ⛷️ The Newcomer Ski Experience is for anyone new to Canada who wants to enjoy this winter activity with a community. No prior skiing experience needed. What to expect ❄️<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Guided ski basics with patient support</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Warm, welcoming group of fellow newcomers</li></ul>Dressing for Cross-Country SkiingDressing in layers allows perspiration to leave the skin while trapping warm air between layers keeping the person feeling comfortable. Torso:a. Base Layer (closest to the skin) - should have &quot;wicking&quot; properties to move any moisture away from the skin, eg. polyester, polypropylene, wool or reasonable substitute. b. Middle Layer-should be the insulating layer to prevent loss of your body heat, keeping the cold outside air away, e.g. long sleeve fleece or wool sweater. c. Insulating Layer - should be the &quot;wind breaking&quot; layer to reduce the chances of cold air reaching the insulating layer, e.g. fleece pullover, fleece vest, wool sweater, down vest. d. Outer Layer - Waterproof, breathable protection, jacket. In colder weather, more layers are necessary. In addition, as one &quot;warms up&quot; removing one layer may be all that is necessary to avoid overheating and sweating excessively. Legs - Long underwear plus snow pants or x-country ski leggings, which have a windbreaker in the front. Face/Head/Neck - Wear a toque, neck tube or facemask/balaclava. Neck warmers are preferred over a scarf for safety reasons. Mittens are preferred over gloves. Feet: This is one of the most important things to get right. Your feet should be comfortable in your boots with a small amount of movement including being able to wiggle your toes. One pair of thermal or wool socks is all that is needed. Fanny pack or backpack: Holds your valuables, extra clothes, water/snack and wax, ski pass, scraper and a cork. Sunscreen - Important even in the winter!
