Event&nbsp;DescriptionCome connect with the land and each other as we start to settle into the Winter months! The land we reside on has a lot to offer us. We just need the knowledge to know what&rsquo;s what. The land takes care of us and this workshop will honour plants as our relatives. &nbsp; Kiana Fontaine will introduce some of the medicines that grow in Manitoba, such as the 4 sacred medicines and their uses and importance. After a quick talk about this, we&rsquo;ll make water colour paintings of whatever medicines/plants we want to!&nbsp; Participants are welcome to keep their paintings or cut them out and we can make a garland out of all our paintings together. We will cut a silhouette around the image, hole punch, and then tie them together with ribbon. This will be a great way to learn about the importance of connection to the land, and work collaboratively together as a community. &nbsp; Smudging will also be available for participants. We hope that this workshop will be a space for participants to connect, rest, get creative, and reflect on their own relationships with the land. &nbsp;We will have free Lush massage bars and light snacks for participants. We will also be drawing to give away 2 waterproof Stormtech backpacks! &nbsp; Facilitator Bio&nbsp;Kiana Fontaine is a visual artist born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Fontaine is Indigenous, she is Saulteaux and Cree. She has roots from Keeseekoose, Saskatchewan. She was raised in a family of artists and she attended Art City Inc. programming almost daily as a kid. Fontaine&rsquo;s family and Art City shaped her into the artist she is today. &nbsp; As an adult, she has come full circle and works at Art City Inc. as workshop facilitator and runs the Indigenous Art Program. Now it&rsquo;s her turn to provide meaningful art programming to the community. She is a painter, and also makes beadwork and regalia. Her paintings are inspired by her culture, family, nature, and her community. &nbsp; Takehome TakeHome BIPOC Arts House is a space for exhibitions, residencies, presentations and creative production for BIPOC artists in Winnipeg. In between exhibitions, TakeHome utilizes the space as a Community Studio. Where BIPOC artists can work, share and participate in various workshops and programs. &nbsp;Accessibility This will be a masked event! Masks will be provided if you cannot bring your own. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. &nbsp; There is a wheelchair accessible entrance on the corner of King St. and Bannatyne Ave and an elevator in the building. There are two washrooms on the 6th floor that are private, locking, non-gendered washrooms. These washrooms do not have handrails or automatic doors. The 1st floor has non-gendered, multi-stall washrooms. Washrooms on the 1st floor have wheelchair accessible stalls with handrails, but do not have automatic doors.⁠&nbsp; We also understand that childcare can be a barrier to attending community events. This space is open to kids and participants of all ages! Street parking is available for free on the weekends. There are also bike racks located outside of the venue.
