PLAY is an interactive, interdisciplinary performance by choreographer Jacinte Armstrong that blurs the lines between workshop and show, play and performance. Set in an informal, non-proscenium space, the piece explores how colourful large-scale objects shape how we move. Through accessible, structured improvisation, bursts of choreography, sound, drawing, and colourful props, audiences are gently invited to co-create the experience. Audience members are invited to join in or simply observe as the performance unfolds around them. Designed for all ages and abilities, PLAY is joyful, and responsive&mdash;transforming a shared space into a temporary world of movement, presence, and possibility. More about the Company &amp; Choreographer: Founded in 2001, celebrating our 25th Anniversary, Mocean Dance is recognized nationally as a leading contemporary dance company from the Atlantic region. We provide fertile ground for artistic endeavours and potential in the field of dance. We share perspectives from our region and create opportunities to engage the local arts ecology and connect to the national performing arts community. Through our work, we aim to support Halifax as a hotspot for creation, research, experimentation, collaboration, and performance, as well as nurturing community vitality through education and community enrichment programs that celebrate dance as a vehicle for transformation. Our activities range from creation and production, touring, professional opportunities for local artists, to community based classes for youth and seniors.
