Broaden Your Horizons with the Orillia Silver Band! “Prospects”Concert  Prospects–This fall, the Orillia Silver Band would love to invite you to an evening of entertainment that gives a musical view from many of the world’s most scenic prospects. Neil Barlow, the band’s music director, says that the concert is designed to provide wonderful and engaging sounds from a wide spectrum of world music styles. The concert opens with the brilliant 20th Century overture “HjalarLjod” by Norwegian composer Eivind Groven, sampling the sounds of shepherds singing in the Norwegian mountains overlooking the North Sea. Jonas Feldman, the band’s principal cornetist, is featured in a wonderful rendition of James Curnow’s brilliant “Concertpiece for Cornet”.   In addition, the band will present a performance of Gustav Holst’s “A Moorside Suite” from northwestern England.   This sweeping work is one of the cornerstones of modern brass band literature. The centrepiece of the band’s “Prospects” concert is the towering six-movement work known as “Windows of the World” by Peter Graham.  This piece features soloists from all of the major sections of the band (including unforgettable percussion artistry!)playing “world music” styles from Latin America, Japan, Celtic Scotland, Africa, and North American jazz/funk.
