Historically rug hooking has ranged from pillows, rugs, runners or wall hangings and modern quilting and borrows from schools such as impressionism, pointillism and realism, blurring the distinction between art and craft. There is a long history of rug-making in Atlantic Canada and New Brunswick in particular: the oldest known hooked rug in Canada was designed by 16-year-old Susanna Smith and crafted by her 13-year-old sister Abigail in 1860 at New Maryland! In this course you'll make a hooked rug from start to finish on an embroidery hoop using burlap, cloth, and yarn. Choose a design, learn to make your own, or both!
