Thank you for registering for our upcoming &ldquo;Special Salmon Service Walk&rdquo; - taking place Sunday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the Traditional Territory of the SCIANEW &amp; T&#39;Sou-ke Communities at Ayum Creek Regional Park Reserve (Sooke, BC). We&rsquo;re looking forward to gathering by the creek to witness the salmon&rsquo;s return and reflect on the deep inter-connection between salmon, birds, and our shared ecosystems. 📍 Meeting point &amp; parkingPlease meet at the trailhead parking area of Ayum Creek Regional Preserve. Park near the access off Highway 14 in Sooke, and we&rsquo;ll gather by the interpretive sign at 11:00 a.m. before heading down the trail together. What to bring:<ul data-end="1221" data-start="1043" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li data-end="1097" data-start="1043" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Weather-appropriate layers and sturdy, waterproof footwear</li><li data-end="1156" data-start="1098" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Binoculars if you have them (we&rsquo;ll have a few extras!)</li><li data-end="1221" data-start="1157" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Curiosity, kindness, and respect for the wild space we share</li></ul>🐻 Bear Awareness &amp; Safe InteractionBecause we&rsquo;ll be walking in good habitat for wildlife, including potentially the local black bear population, we want to share some current best practices to help keep both you and the wildlife safe. Before and during the walk:<ul data-end="1938" data-start="1506" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li data-end="1614" data-start="1506" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Travel in groups, stay together, and keep children close and pets at home.&nbsp;</li><li data-end="1753" data-start="1615" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Make your presence known: talk, sing lightly, or clap periodically so you don&rsquo;t surprise a bear.&nbsp;</li><li data-end="1938" data-start="1754" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Give wildlife space: if you spot a bear or signs of bear activity (tracks, scat, disturbed logs), give it a wide berth and avoid startling it.&nbsp;</li></ul>If you encounter a black bear while on the trail:<ul data-end="2557" data-start="1996" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li data-end="2103" data-start="1996" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Stay calm.
