Elle cherche à encourager un éveil des perceptions sensorielles du public et des interprètes, en leur donnant une immédiateté émotionnelle, un accès direct. Après avoir complété une formation musicale au Conservatoire de Paris, elle se forme comme danseuse à l'École de danse contemporaine de Montréal et travaille ensuite avec des chorégraphes tels que George Stamos, Damien Jalet et Benoît Lachambre. En 2017, elle chorégraphie sa première œuvre de groupe, Cosmic Love. Elle a aussi donné 90 représentations de sa pièce solo When Even The dans le cadre de l'exposition du MAC en hommage à Leonard Cohen. En 2019, elle crée Rather a Ditch, une pièce solo interprétée par Céline Bonnier. This is a movement-comedy-improvisation workshop that unleashes your true nature. Clown is a style of theatrical comedy where the performer is fully embodied, follows their joy, is vulnerable, fully commits to the bit, is not afraid to flop, raises the stakes, and believes wholeheartedly that they are brilliant. Everything is for the audience - you do not exist without them. To find your clown is to connect with the pure joy of your inner child, and express your wonder and enthusiasm for the world without needing to wear emotional armour. Make eye contact, don’t think, don’t judge, just go for it. Embrace awkwardness, create tension, build an elastic with your scene partners and audience. Radiate joy and the audience will love you. July 30: Raise the Stakes, Make Me Care What is the difference between being shy, coy, flirtatious and arrogant on stage? How do you give the audience what they want and not too much? A movement-comedy-improvisation workshop that teaches how to build a connection with the audience so that they trust you, care about your story, and then even let you mess around with them. Try your hardest. Be present on stage, be with the audience. You will practice unflappable confidence, fully committing to your bit, learning how to flop, how to shed self judgement, and radiate love. In groups of 2 or 3, you will improvise simple scene premises that bring audiences to the edge of their seat. August 5: Devised Ensemble Storytelling Through Clown Create scenes through ensemble physical listening. We will choose themes and topics on which to improvise words, sound and movement. You will do some vocal technique, create soundscapes, and practice moving as one. We are looking to improvise/flock together so seamlessly that there looks to be no leader from the outside. who is this for/what to expect For dancers and movers who are clown curious, interested in comedy, interested in improvisation, text, spoken word, audience engagement, audience interaction, authenticity through movement, joy and pleasure through movement, shedding self doubt, increasing creator-choregrapher skills. She is a folk singer, songwriter, composer, sound designer, spoken word poet, actor, clown, satirist, and educator. Janice is a hard femme, queer, radical, comedian, truth-teller and satirist. She is interested in using art to build flourishing communities based in justice and joy. Her work explores gender justice, antiracism, friendship, community, ancestry and the Earth. Janice has released three albums of music, two poetry chapbooks, and has composed music and sound for two musicals and five plays. She has directed workshops and creation labs with her project Play Play Clown Theatre since fall of 2022 at Sweet Action Theatre. She has facilitated arts and anti-oppression programming professionally for 15 years.
