Co-présentée avec le <a href="https://www.musee-mccord-stewart.ca/" target="_blank">Musée McCord Stewart</a> Le FIFEQ-Montréal vous invite à l'ouverture de sa 21e édition, placée sous le thème du Visible et de l’Invisible. Cette soirée se tiendra le 7 mai 2025 au Musée McCord Stewart, à partir de 18h et mettra à l’honneur les femmes et filles autochtones disparues et assassinées au Québec et au Canada. Cette réalité sera l’occasion de discuter et de cerner la force coloniale qui sévit toujours au Canada et de sa matérialisation dans la vie et les corps des femmes et filles autochtones.  Cette programmation a été co-construite avec la curatrice Célina Yellowbird, adjointe à la conservation, Cultures autochtones au Musée McCord Stewart. D’origine Nêhiyawak et française, Célina appartient à la Première Nation d’Alexander, qui se situe à 40 minutes d’Edmonton. Son projet de maîtrise porte sur les femmes et les filles autochtones et bispirituelles disparues et assassinées dans les Prairies. Pour ouvrir la soirée, nous vous invitons à partager un verre et quelques bouchées dans une ambiance conviviale. Vous serez ensuite invité·es à découvrir une proposition artistique forte rendant hommage aux femmes qui se sont battues pour nous et à celles qui luttent encore aujourd’hui pour leur place et leur voix. Trois performances profondes mettront en lumière les combats, les joies et la résilience des femmes de l’Île de la Tortue, tout en honorant la mémoire de celles qui ne sont plus parmi nous. Vous aurez l'occasion de découvrir le travail des chorégraphes Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, de la nation Kanien'keha:ka (Kahnawake), et Daniela Carmona Sánchez (Mexique/Tenochtitlán), suivi de la projection du film À la recherche de Dawn (73 min, version sous-titrée en français), réalisé par la réputée cinéaste métis Christine Welsh (2008).  Le long métrage donnera aux spectateurs.trices un aperçu plus profond de l’expérience des femmes autochtones au Canada. Mettant des visages sur cette tragédie nationale. Christine Welsh lève le voile sur l’expérience de Dawn Crey, Ramona Wilson et Daleen Kay Bosse qui ne sont que 3 des quelque 500* femmes autochtones portées disparues ou assassinées au Canada au cours des 30 dernières années. * Ces chiffres datant de 2008 ont évolué. L’association des Femmes Autochtones du Canada dénombre plus de 4 000 femmes autochtones disparues et assassinées.  La projection se poursuivra par une table-ronde modérée par Celina Yellowbird, co-curatrice de cette programmation  qui sera accompagnée d’invité.e.s ! This evening will take place on May 7, 2025, at the McCord Stewart Museum starting at 6:00 PM, and will honor the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Quebec and Canada. This tragic reality will serve as an opportunity to discuss and expose the ongoing colonial power in Canada and its impact on the lives and bodies of Indigenous women and girls. This program was co-curated with Célina Yellowbird, Assistant Curator of Indigenous Cultures at the McCord Stewart Museum. Of Nêhiyawak and French descent, Célina belongs to the Alexander First Nation, located about 40 minutes from Edmonton. Her master’s project focuses on missing and murdered Indigenous and Two-Spirit women and girls in the Prairies. To open the evening, we invite you to share a drink and some light bites in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. You will then be invited to experience a powerful artistic presentation honoring the women who fought for us, and those who continue to fight today for their rightful place and voice. Three profound performances will highlight the struggles, joys, and resilience of the women of Turtle Island, while honoring the memory of those who are no longer with us. You will have the opportunity to experience the work of choreographers Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, from the Kanien'keha:ka Nation (Kahnawake), and Daniela Carmona Sánchez (Mexico/Tenochtitlán), followed by the screening of the film Finding Dawn (73 min, subtitled in French), directed by renowned Métis filmmaker Christine Welsh (2008). The feature film offers a deeper look into the lived experiences of Indigenous women in Canada, putting faces to this national tragedy. Christine Welsh sheds light on the stories of Dawn Crey, Ramona Wilson, and Daleen Kay Bosse — only three of the approximately 500 Indigenous women reported missing or murdered in Canada over the past 30 years.Note: These numbers, dating from 2008, have since increased. The Native Women’s Association of Canada reports over 4,000 missing and murdered Indigenous women. The screening will be followed by a roundtable discussion, moderated by Célina Yellowbird, co-curator of the event, accompanied by special guests!
