Experience remarkable original silent film footage taken from the Shackleton Antarctic expedition (1914-1917) accompanied by live choral music in the historic acoustic of St. John&#39;s Elora. South: Sir Ernest Shackleton&#39;s Glorious Epic of the Antarctic&nbsp;by filmmaker Frank Hurley is widely regarded as the first feature-length silent documentary film. Originally exhibited in 1919, it was digitally restored in 2022 by the British Film Institute for cinematic viewing.&nbsp; We present our own original cut of the restored film specifically designed to accompany a live choral performance of composer Tomas Luis de Victoria&#39;s Requiem. A rarely-performed masterwork of Renaissance choral music, Victoria&#39;s soaring harmonies perfectly complement Hurley&#39;s imagery of towering icebergs, icy landscapes, and human strife.&nbsp; Don&#39;t miss the opportunity to experience these riveting pieces of cinematic and musical history together, performed by the professional Choir of St. John&#39;s Elora (one of Canada&#39;s premiere professional choral ensembles) and in our historic church,&nbsp;transformed for one weekend only into a movie theatre thanks to our partnership with the Elora Adventure Film Festival. Shackleton and his party survived for over a year and a half, trapped in and on the ice, before Shackleton and a small team made a 1300km open boat journey to obtain rescuers from the closest inhabited island. All members of the expedition returned alive.
