Sponsorship: The Art of Crop Nutrient Budgeting: Training for Agronomists Farmers face increasing pressure from buyers, citizens and Governments to adopt environmentally beneficial land management practices. Many rely on crop advisors for the information and advice they need to make management changes. In a new training series starting this winter, the Prairie Organic Development Fund (PODF) is partnering with the University of Manitoba to help industry professionals get the latest science on nutrient management. The training will be valuable to all crop advisors and to farmers who want to decrease their dependence on conventional nutrient sources. Having great crop rotations in which inputs match exports from the farm is crucial - both for maximizing efficiency of inputs and for reducing environmental losses of valuable nutrients. The Art of Crop Nutrient Budgeting is PODF’s third training for agronomists. Our last training sessions in January of 2023 covered the basics of organic agriculture – from seeding to weed, disease and pest management and soil health. Over a series of five on-line trainings, an average of 186 agronomists and farmers (934 total registrations) were introduced to the latest science and practice of sustainable agriculture. Since then, many more agronomists and farmers have downloaded the free <a href="https://pivotandgrow.com/resources/grain-resources/grain-production/agronomist-training/" style="text-decoration-color:initial;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit">course training materials</a>. This training is supported by a <a href="https://www.gov.mb.ca/scap/index.html" style="text-decoration-color:initial;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit">Sustainable Agricultural Partnership</a> grant from the Manitoba and Federal Governments, matched 50:50 with PODF. As a not-for-profit organization with no other sources of revenue, PODF relies on industry partners like you to provide matching dollars for its projects.
