Beginning as a teenage volunteer, he later became the centre&rsquo;s principal, helping lead a team of volunteers serving more than 300 refugee students.&nbsp;After resettling in Canada in 2019, Abdullah continued his commitment to refugee leadership through advocacy, public speaking, and private sponsorship. He is a co-founder of Northern Lights West and Parastoo, initiatives that support refugee resettlement and elevate refugee voices.&nbsp;Abdullah has shared his story on international stages, including TEDx, and co-authored research on refugee leadership and meaningful participation. In 2025, he received the MOSAIC Human Rights Award in recognition of his contributions to refugee education, human rights, and humanitarian action. She is currently pursuing a degree in Political Science at the University of British Columbia, where her studies focus on refugee protection, international law, and gender equity.&nbsp;Muhaddisa is a 2023 Loran Scholar, one of Canada&#39;s most prestigious undergraduate leadership awards, and a recipient of the Eyob G. Naizghi Scholarship for refugee leadership. She has shared her story on international stages, including TEDx, and represented Canadian youth at the 68th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York.&nbsp;Together with her brother, Abdullah, Muhaddisa co-founded Parastoo, an initiative that amplifies refugee voices and supports displaced communities through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Through her advocacy, she continues to champion a future where education, dignity, and opportunity are accessible to every displaced person.
