IncantationsFuture Ancestors : Koko Mariano, Jielin Liu et Najeeba Ahmed Incantations est une performance de téléprésence qui explore les liens qui transcendent la distance, le temps et l'identité. Réunissant des artistes à Montréal et aux Philippines, l'œuvre utilise la vidéo en direct, le son, des effets visuels déclenchés par le son, des gestes rituels et des interactions improvisées pour interroger nos manières d'entrer en relation dans des mondes fragmentés et médiatisés. Le projet se déroule en trois temps : séparation (passé), union (présent) et communauté (futur), invitant le public à faire l'expérience de formes spéculatives de communication au-delà du langage. Future Ancestors est un collectif basé à Montréal, composé de Koko Mariano, Jielin Liu et Najeeba Ahmed, dont les pratiques individuelles ont longtemps tourné autour des mêmes questions avant de se rejoindre : comment nos identités hybrides véhiculent-elles le savoir ancestral, et en quoi ce que nous créons aujourd'hui contribue-t-il à façonner les mondes futurs ? Travaillant à la croisée du son, de l’image, de la performance et de la technologie, notre pratique cherche à établir une forme de réciprocité tant avec le passé qu’avec l’avenir, en remontant vers les savoirs ancestraux que le colonialisme a tenté d’effacer, et en avançant vers une pratique artistique qui laisse derrière elle quelque chose qui mérite d’être hérité.
