The good news is that with the right care, recovery no longer means staying in a dark room and waiting to feel better.  New research has led to important updates in pediatric concussion guidelines over the past year, highlighting a more flexible and active approach to recovery. Once diagnosed with a concussion, students no longer require a medical note to return to low-risk activities like school, allowing them to safely resume learning while continuing their recovery. We all play a role in recognizing and managing concussions. A concussion should be suspected in anyone who experiences a hit to the head, face, or body and shows any signs or symptoms of concussion. It is important that they see a nurse practitioner (NP) or doctor (MD) for a complete medical assessment before returning to any activity. Tara Leach, a local Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner, and Dr. Jennifer Dawson, PhD, a concussion researcher at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), will share the latest evidence-based recommendations on how to best support students after a concussion. This seminar will provide teachers, coaches, parents, and students with practical strategies and resources to recognize concussions, promote recovery, and help students safely return to learning and activity. Join us to learn how these new updates are improving concussion care and where to find the latest evidence-based resources.
