The WBDI (Women Band Directors International–Alberta Chapter) presents the Girls in Jazz Workshop 2027, bringing female jazz musicians of all ages and experience levels together for a focused day of learning, playing, and listening. Now in its fifth year, the Girls in Jazz Workshop was created to help bridge the gender gap in jazz, where women make up only 6% of jazz instrumentalists. This inspiring all-day workshop, taught by an all female staff, welcomes women and gender-diverse musicians of all ages to explore improvisation, combo playing, and big band performance in a safe and supportive environment. The workshop continues its tradition of featuring some of North America’s most accomplished jazz artists and educators. This year, we are thrilled to welcome educator, advocate, bandleader and composer Terri Lyne Carrington (drums), with Kris Davis (piano), and Jodi Proznick (bass). Join us on Saturday, January 30, 2027, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Central Memorial High School in Calgary for an empowering day of learning, connection, and jazz! RegistrationOnce you complete your payment, you will receive an email containing a link to a Google registration form. Your registration is not complete until this form has been submitted. The information you provide will help our organizers place you in the ensemble that is most appropriate for your experience and playing level.
