CLASS DESCRIPTIONEnsemble Thinking™ is a collaborative performing, creative, and philosophical practice developed by Nina Martin (USA) and the Lower Left Performance Collective since 1994. Attributing lineages to Mary Overlie's Viewpoints and New York's 70s and 80s experimental improvisation scene, the practice continues to evolve through the Lower Left's shared and individual artistry, including applications in Julie Lebel’s work within Foolish Operations.Ensemble Thinking™ sharpens a group's capacity for dynamic compositional choices and collective action. In this 90-minute workshop, we will transition from solo-body articulation into concrete ensemble exercises, valuing difference as a resource. Together, we will cultivate attunement to both chaos and order, balance seeing with being seen, practice regulating our nervous systems in performance mode, and disrupt common patterns in solo and ensemble decision-making. BIOJulie Lebel is a francophone choreographer invested in interactions between public space, interdisciplinarity and community exploring the poetics of intergenerational connection and the practice of Ensemble Thinking™, with a body of work spanning nearly 30 years.
