Riot Grrrl Zine-Making

Join us for a hands-on zine-making workshop inspired by the Riot Grrrl archive, exploring punk zines, DIY publishing, and archival practice. Led by Evangeline Dorval (research assistant at the University of Calgary&#39;s Riot Grrrl zine archive) and Kiera Russell (Calgary Zine Club and High Queerdness), this session builds on a shared passion for punk subcultures and anti-establishment feminist creativity. Evangeline will introduce and compare archival zines drawn from the U of C collection, prompting participants to collectively examine the resonances between 1990s and present-day Riot Grrrl histories and the essential roles women and queer punks play in sustaining DIY culture. Participants will create their own zines in response to the archive with assistance from Kiera Russell. The workshop invites participants to understand DIY culture not merely as an aesthetic, but as a living social and political practice. All experience levels are welcome. High Queerdness will provide materials, examples, and a supportive space.
