Highland Wildfire Response is a non-profit which&nbsp;exists to protect Highland communities, landscapes and livelihoods from the growing threat of wildfires. Across the Highlands and Scotland overall, fires are becoming more frequent, more intense and harder to control. Remote terrain, long response times and limited local resources mean small incidents can escalate rapidly, putting people, homes, wildlife and critical land assets at risk. When this happens, it is often local people who respond first. Gamekeepers, Farmers, Forestry and others from land management step in to help, frequently without real insurance cover, suitable PPE and entirely at their own risk. Our mission is to change that. We are building competent, trained, insured and properly equipped volunteer wildfire response units, rooted in local communities made up of rural wildfire experts and operating alongside statutory emergency services. Inspired by the mountain rescue model, these units focus on early intervention, support during incidents, and practical wildfire preparedness before emergencies occur. Our first units will be based in;Drumnadrochit - serving the Great Glen and surrounding areasTain - serving Easter Ross and Sutherland Establishing these units is expected to cost nearly &pound;200,000.&nbsp;For context, appropriate PPE is around &pound;950 per personEach offroad vehicle is expected to cost around &pound;36,000 each Every donation helps fund essential training, protective equipment, fit for purpose off road vehicles and specialist wildfire kit. It ensures that when our rural communities step forward to protect their place, they do so safely, effectively and with the backing they deserve. We will be working hard this year to generate the necessary funding and sustainable revenue so we can establish a replicable model to add more wildfire units across the region.
