Jodie has set herself the mega challenge of climbing Pen Y Fan in June 2026, to raise awareness of FND and raise funds for local charity, PATCH. Since June 2008 PATCH has been giving free food parcels, toiletries, cleaning products, clothing and household items to those in a financial crisis in Pembrokeshire. They work closely with referral agencies to help those that are experiencing hardship through perhaps a delay in benefits, fire, theft and escaping emergency situations. PATCH relies on donations to be able to provide this service to those in need. Jodie battles daily with a neurological condition, FND (Functional Neurological Disorder). There is no simple cure for FND and it is a case of learning how to deal with it daily. She would love to raise as much money as possible for PATCH and raise awareness of what it is like living with FND. What is FND?FND is a condition where the brain has difficulty sending and receiving signals properly, causing distressing physical symptoms without structural damage to the nervous system. It is best explained as a 'software issue' rather than a 'hardware issue' where the brains pathways for movement and sensation is disrupted.Common symptoms include:- weakness and/or paralysis- tremors and/or jerking movements- speech difficulties- walking problems- sensory issues (numbness/tingling)- electric shock sensation- brain fog and fatigueThe list is endless and varies from person to person. Jodie's Story"I was officially diagnosed with FND in April 2024 by a neurologist after having numerous symptoms for over a year, as it is quite difficult to diagnose. My symptoms are:- spasms in my whole body- electric shock sensations from head to toe- walking problems due to weakness- jerking movementsOther main symptoms I get include:- leg and/or arm paralysis- functional seizures- speech difficulties - functional dystonia (jaw locking and hands locking in abnormal position). My symptoms can vary from mild to severe daily, but they can also become severe very quickly with no warning signs." Please keep an eye on our socials for updates & donate to encourage Jodie in her training.
