For 23 years, União da Mocidade Samba (UDM Samba) has been bringing the energy, artistry and community spirit of Rio samba carnival to London. Our Youth Carnival Project gives young people the opportunity to learn, create, perform and be part of something unique — finding in samba a sense of belonging and a community — completely free of charge. We believe that young people deserve access to high-quality arts and cultural experiences regardless of their circumstances.  Through samba, our students learn far more than music and dance. They discover the richness of Rio's carnival traditions, develop discipline and creativity, build confidence, work as a team and experience what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves. Our young people come from diverse backgrounds, but within UDM Samba they become part of a family nd a samba community in London that spans generations. Help us keep this project alive Our students don't pay for their classes. Every contribution we receive helps us continue providing their education and gives them the opportunity to take part in the creation and delivery of our annual carnival productions. <ul><li>Free weekly classes in samba music, dance and carnival traditions</li><li>Instruments, costumes and materials for our young performers</li><li>The creation and production of our annual carnival shows</li><li>Performance opportunities that allow our students to take what they have learned onto the stage and into the community</li><li>The adult artists and cultural practitioners who dedicate their time, skill and passion to passing this artform on to the next generation</li><li>A unique London platform for Rio samba culture, created and sustained by our community</li></ul>This year, we need your support more than ever Unfortunately, this year we did not receive funding from the Arts Council — but we decided to carry on anyway. Because the young people are worth it. The project is worth it. And after 23 years, we weren't prepared to let a difficult funding year stop the work. Resilience is at the heart of samba and fundamental to what we teach. But if UDM Samba's Youth Carnival Project is going to continue growing and become genuinely sustainable for the future, we need the support of the people who believe in what we are building.
