In March 2022, our co-founder Brian Wands was admitted to hospital with severe acute pancreatitis. He spent seven months in Glasgow Royal &nbsp;Infirmary, 84 days of them in intensive care, and survived thanks to a remarkable clinical team. When he was well enough to look for support, he found something startling: there was no dedicated pancreatitis charity in Scotland. No single &nbsp;place for reliable information. No community for patients and families. Nothing. Yet pancreatitis puts over 3,000 people in Scottish hospitals every year, around 8 people every single day. It can be life-threatening, it can &nbsp;change lives permanently, and most people have never heard of it. So Brian teamed up with Maria Coats, a consultant surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, to build what was missing. Pancreatitis Scotland is the country&#39;s first charity dedicated to this condition: founded by a patient who lived it and a surgeon who treats it every week. What makes us different is simple: lived experience and clinical expertise, side by side. Every factsheet we publish is written by clinicians and shaped by what patients actually need to know. Everything we produce is free, and always will be.
